ST. HELEN DRESS CODE  
       
  Students of Saginaw Area Catholic Schools should be dressed at all times in a manner that reflects pride in their schools. Neatness in dress and grooming will reflect this pride and set a tone of serious commitment to a learning environment. Parents are strongly advised to help enforce this dress code.    
   
  UNIFORMS    
       
         
  Boys’ Trousers   Plain dress style: can be purchased from Work Wear store or any department store. Navy Blue (K-8)  Khaki (7-8)    
  Girls’ Skirt/Jumper Plaid purchased from Work Wear Store Must be knee length. Jumper (K-3) Skirts (4-8)  Navy Blue (7-8) Nouvel Catholic Central uniform  skirt only      
  Girls’ Slacks Plain dress style can be worn in place of the skirt/jumper anytime except Liturgy Days.  Can be purchased from Work Wear Store or any department store (No flair pant leg or double stitch jean style pants, or pockets with flaps are permitted etc. e.g.: Old Navy)  Navy Blue (K-8) Khaki (7-8) Note: All shirts/blouses are to be worn tucked inside the trousers / slacks / skirts / jumpers / shorts at all times.    
  Girls Skorts Navy blue uniform skort or plaid uniform skorts purchased at the Work Wear Store, can be worn.from April 1st to October 31st, Same belt requirement.    
  Girls Shirts Polo style, round or pointed collar, short or long sleeve, white, light blue or red.    
  WHITE blouses must be worn on Liturgy days. Shirts that are oversized or tightly fitted will not be allowed. No decorations or logos are permitted. Turtlenecks are permitted except on Liturgy days.   (K-8)    
  Boys Shirts Polo style shirts are allowed except on Liturgy days. (K-8) white, light blue or red. WHITE dress shirt must be worn with a tie on Liturgy days.    
  Shorts Uniform or plain style, navy blue walking shorts, must be knee length, can be worn April 1st thru October 31st and at the discretion of the Principal.    
  Capri’s Girls in K-8 may wear Capri’s to school April 1st thru October 31st. These must be purchased at the Work Wear Store.  No other Capri’s will be allowed.    
  Sweaters Long-sleeved cardigan, crew neck, or vest can be worn over the uniform shirt/blouse. Must be purchased from the Work Wear Store ONLY. School monograms are allowed. Solid color white or navy blue only.    
  Sweatshirts Purchased only from St. Helen School office Gray, White, or Green. NO HOODED SWEATSHIRTS ARE ALLOWED    
  Socks White or Navy, solid colors (must be above the ankle bone)    
  Shoes School shoes with heels less than one inch Must be leather  All shoes must be school type shoes  Brown, navy, or black    
  Belts Belts must be worn with all slacks, pants that have belt loops. Navy, black, brown (solid color).    
  UNIFORM CLARIFICATIONS    
  * Uniform skirts, jumpers, slacks, shorts, skirts, shirts, blouses or socks can be purchased from the Work Wear Store.    
  * Haircuts and hair styles must be short, neat and simple. Boys’ hair must be cut above the eyes, above the ears and off the collar. Latest fashions in styles or grooming that detract or distract would contradict a reflection of pride and thus invite direction from the school leadership staff, No names, stripes, steps, tails or excessively long hair will be permitted. Girls’ headbands and hair bows can be worn in blue or white.    
  * Jewelry will consist of a single pair of very small plain post earrings worn in the lower ear lobe only; a watch, a cross, and a religious medallion can be worn if desired.    
  * Pants will be plain dress style. No extra pockets or flaps on the pockets, zippers, flared, wide legged, elastic or pegged legs.    
  * Girls tights are solid white or navy blue. No lacy leggings.    
  * Finger nail polish and make-up are not permitted. (K-8)    
  *  Shoes must be in colors of black, brown or navy. All shoes must be school type shoes. NO sandals or sandal style, backless or canvas style shoes will be permitted. NO athletic shoes or hiking boots of any kind are allowed.    
  NO HATS WILL BE WORN IN SCHOOL    
  Students are to attend school in their appropriate uniforms at all times. Parents are urged to cooperate and see that children have the proper uniform attire. Uniforms will be worn to school, in school and leaving school, year round. Exceptions will be made for special occasions, field trips and at the discretion of the Principal.    
  The clothing of students in Kindergarten through Grade 3 should be marked with proper identification. It is recommended that all students mark their boots, coats, hats, and gym clothes.    
  Students wearing winter boots to school must also have suitable classroom footwear.    
  LITURGY DAYS    
  Boys in grades Kindergarten though 8 are required to wear a plain WHITE dress shirt and tie with their navy blue uniform. slacks (khaki 7 & 8) for all Liturgy days. Girls in grades Kindergarten through 8 must be dress in their uniform jumper or skirt, with WHITE blouses; for all Liturgy days:    
  SPIRIT DAYS    
  On the first Friday of the month during the school year students can participate in Spirit Days. On these days, students must wear a piece of clothing with St. Helen logo on it. (i.e. athletic uniform top, a t-shirt purchased from St Helen, uniform sweatshirt, NO HOODED SHIRTS OR SWEATSHIRTS ALLOWED). Jeans or slacks may also be worn with tennis shoes. NO HATS ARE PERMITTED.    
  $1 JEAN DAYS    
  On the third Friday of the month during the school year, students can participate in $1. Jean Days, providing they pay one dollar. On these days, students are allowed to wear jeans (with no holes, rips or tears) and an (appropriate) t-shirt to school.    
  GYM    
  A gym bag, shorts, T-shirts, socks, and gym shoes (reserved for gym class only); can be any color.    
    St. Helen Dress Code Revised 2007
